"Bad Experience with Receptionist"

About: Norwich Practices Health Centre

Always found the doctors lovely and helpful, overall my experiences have been good here but I had one particularly bad one that left a bad taste in my mouth. It is old now so too late for me to complain formally but I want to warn others going through a tough time with their mental health.

Had stressful time in life (parent diagnosed with cancer, made redundant, landlord selling flat, etc) which ended in being extremely suicidal due to previous mental health issues resurfacing - depression etc. I have no history of aggression etc. Called surgery to book appointment. The receptionist didn't hear my name and asked me to repeat it so I did. It came out kind of like a yelp, because I was crying, but I didn't yell, swear, or raise my voice except trying to make it more audible. They accused me of being aggressive and abusive and began to lecture me. I gave up on trying to make my appointment and called 111 instead, who called the surgery, talked to the receptionist who told them I was abusive and aggressive and then said I could still have an appointment but 'would be kept separate from other patients because I was so abusive, aggressive and potentially violent.'

I was literally just crying while trying to say my name audibly. That is all I did and they treated me like a psychopathic criminal while I was at rock bottom and trying to get help. There was no sensitivity or consideration at all. They took a bad situation and made it much worse.

Was very unhappy with my treatment by the receptionist.

We are sorry to hear of your experience.

We fully appreciate that you would not want to identify yourself on a public forum, but it is very difficult for us to investigate this incident properly, and prevent it happening to other patients, without the date and the time of your call.

Therefore, we would like to invite you to contact the Practice Manager directly to discuss the matter further so that we can follow our usual complaints procedure, as we are keen to main high standards of service for all our patients.

You also have the option of writing to us with the details if you would find it more convenient.
