I visited the NHS walk in centre in Victoria for a minor eye infection. After a slightly disconcerting start ("Please take a seat for a moment, I have to call the police"), it worked flawlessly - a short wait, a concerned and helpful doctor, and away I went.
But the real gain is that it is there at all. My GPs surgery is a minute's walk from my house, but completely inconvenient, because I am not at my house during surgery hours, I am at work. Organising services where people actually are is a huge and very welcome improvement.
One small gripe: the website for the centre has a .co.uk address. It seems to be run on a contract basis by a private company. But the branding of the centre itself is consistently NHS. From a patient perspective and for consistency, the website really ought to be .nhs.uk
