"Accessing medical records"

About: NHS Wokingham CCG

(as a parent/guardian),

I am a carer parent of son aged 55 whom has learning disability and autism. I have experience of being pushed around from one GP to another GP, for over 20 plus years due to my son's disabling condition as GP's do not fully understand the nature and fluctuations of the disability.

As my son's appointee, I received a letter from DWP inquiring about my son, for evidence of his disability should he wish to  continue to receive financial/welfare benefit from the DWP (although they had been given evidence in the initial claim).

I had been told by DWP by phone and not received this in writing that the evidence of disability needs to be up to date and not historical.

However, upon trying to get medical evidence from that GP, the GP wrote to the whole family saying that the Clinical Commissioning Group for Wokingham had stopped the funding for their practice and requested that we find another GP.

However, upon inquiring with the Wokingham Clinical Commissioning Group, the CCG stated that was not the case.

This in turn took time and caused a long time to organize which meant that my son lost his disability benefit from the DWP .

I have also been told by that GP, that my son's medical condition/records have  not been kept up to date or found.

I also inquired with the local authority regards to accessing my sons' records being kept where he attended for the whole of his school years at a special school for his disability and the health medical records that should have been kept following school medicals. I have been told these are not available.

I would like help to learn where next I should go to get appropriate help, as the DWP are not helpful  as they say they need up to date knowledge of his disability and proof of same, due to my sons disability he cannot cope with a face to face interview as this will cause great anxiety and inappropriate behavior, stress on him and I as his carer.

The new GP has written 3 letters explaining my son's disability, but the DWP are not satisfied.

When the older NHS institutions were closed, was it never considered that other institutions, such as DWP and police, would have a need to access records and safe keeping of such are a vital part of caring for those unable to care for themselves.
