What I liked
I'll be honest, I was nervous about opting to have my baby's birth at Good Hope as I had heard so many negative stories about the place, even on the news and papers. But a week before my little one was born I changed from City to Good Hope, purely for the reason of it being closer.
All I can say is that I made the right choice! From my hind waters breaking to the birth of my baby it was over 60 hours with a number of trips to the delivery suit to be checked - the staff were so friendly and helpful. Once admitted I found that my midwife looked after me so well. Due to the lenght of the labour and a little complication I ended up having a number of midwifes, students, doctors and an anesthetist in there with me and my husband. Without them I couldn't have done it. The help and support is overwhelming. Once baby was born everyone disappeared leaving mother and baby to bond. It seemed to take long to be taken to the ward but this is understandable as all staff had moved onto the next emergency. Atleast you know you'll be looked aftered. Saying that whenever I pressed the buszzer I had someone attend to me, making sure I was fed and comfortable.
Even once on Ward 5 there was contant help at hand. I am happy with the service I received and recommend this hospital for maternity/delivery - you always hear the bad stuff never the good stories.
Big thanks to all the staff that I encountered. :o)
What could be improved
Not that I got to use it but I did get a tour and do remember what it looked like - the birthing pool could do with being redone or cleaned to get rid of the stains.
Also would be worth having another birth pool and maybe some portable/blow up ones in the room.
More storage space for your luggage
Anything else?
Big thanks to all the staff that I encountered. :o)
"Excellent Service"
