"Still cannot get an appointment"

About: Woodroyd Medical Practice

On Tues 26th April after suffering severe stomach cramps , vomiting and diarrhea I struggled to get to doctors surgery i told the receptionist i was very weak and what i was suffering from which I think was food poisoning I was told there were no appointments. I asked if i could make one for next day but was told there were no more appointments left for this week. Being over 60 years old i think this was not good enough. The surgery was empty and I was told by the manager that they only take a few appointments for each day. I would like to know what happens when the surgery is empty and what is done for the rest of the day. i know doctors have to go on house visits but i was told there was 7 doctors at the surgery. Why could i not get an appointment.

I am really sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience when trying to arrange an appointment at the surgery. We pride ourself on giving the best service to our patients.

We do ask patients to book the next available and then keep ringing the surgery for cancellations. Telephone lines open at 9am we have a high volume of calls coming through and can only ask patients to perservere and they will get through, alternatively you can come to the desk in person to arrange an appointmen at 9am. If your call is not of an urgent nature we would suggest you ring later in the day as the volumes of calls is considerably lower. I would like to apologise if you feel that you have not been dealt with in the appropriate manner and I appreciate that you have brought this to my attention, I would be happy to speak to you in person regarding these issues if you would like to come and see me at the surgery.

May I also bring to your attention the option of booking appointments on line, if you call into the surgery with some form of photo id(passport/driving licence) you can gain access to this service via the practice website.
