"Cancellation of appointment"

About: Northwick Park Hospital / Urology

I had received a letter on 09/10/2017 confirming my Urology Flexible Cystoscopy appointment at Central Middlesex Hospital for Thursday 2 November 2017. I had called Admissions Office on 0208 8869 2388 to confirm acceptance of the appointment as requested in the letter.

I received a call from Northwick Park Hospital today at 11.45 informing me that my appointment has been cancelled. I told the staff member from appointments that I had waited over two years to reach this stage; that is, to be examined properly to relieve me from my condition. When I asked them for reasons for cancellation, at first they told me that there was no doctor available. I pointed out to them that my appointment was at Central Middlesex Hospital and not at Northwick Park Hospital; they told me that my appointment was made in error! What an incredible story! How can an appointment be made in error? When I pressed them and asked them to reschedule my appointment, they did not have a clue. They said they would ask someone and get back to me. I never received any phone call.

I am appalled and totally unhappy with such a casual attitude of staff and Hospital. I am suffering from this condition for over three years. I, with the persistence of my good GP, eventually managed to get an appointment for a proper assessment which is cancelled by hospital, at last minute, by giving me some unbelievable reasons. Worst still, the staff could not book me another appointment and promised to call me back after making enquiries. They failed to come back to me as agreed. Is this the case of appointment departments running the hospital rather than doctors?

I understand you may have difficulties with resources, but you must also understand my suffering and anxiety in the matter.

Dear Ms Kara

Thank you for detailing your concerns regarding your appointment that was due to take place on 2 November that was unfortunately cancelled on the day.

I am very sorry for the obvious inconvenience this has caused and for the lack of response you have had to this since.

Please contact our PALS team on 020 8869 5118 or via email at LNWH-tr.PALS@nhs.net and they will be happy to discuss this with you and ensure that a relevant member of the Urology team to call you to rebook your appointment.

Thank you again for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.

Kind regards

Peter Hare
