What I liked
I was transferred from home to LGH after a prolonged labour with my second child. The ambulance arrived very quickly and I can't praise all the staff highly enough. I lost a lot of blood and needed stitches and and young female doctor who looked after me once my baby was born was superb. I had a health care assistant dress and look after my son while I had a shower and she was outside the whole time to make sure I was ok (fantastic).
I was amazed that I had my own room which was a blessing as I could relax and feed my baby quietly and in privacy. I developed an extremely swollen and very painful wrist a few hours after being on the ward (owing to the IV drip) and this was dealt with very quickly. The rooms, toilet and showers were emaculately clean and the ward was lovely and quiet.
My first child was born at Miton Keynes which was utterly dreadful, dirty cramped wards, no privacy, unhelpful and rude midwives, I even wet myself on a couple of occasions as no one would help me to the toilet (I couldn't walk). My daughter was premature and in special care, I had an empty cot next to my bed and had to lie and watch all the other mothers feeding and cuddling their babies - horrendous.
LGH is a palace in comparison! Very informative and helpful staff.
Thank you
What could be improved
The day room was a little cramped, especially with lots of babies in cots, but hardly a problem. The maternity ward was stiffling and windows difficult to open to get fresh air - I appreciate it was to be arm but maybe not quite that hot!
