What I liked
My son entered NPH having suffered a severe stroke. His treatment in the stroke unit was superb, he stayed there almost 4 weeks. Following on to the Regional Rehabilitation Unit where he stayed for 4 months. Unfortunately during this time he suffered pneumonia and was admitted to HDU . In the RRU the staff are absolutely amazing, they cope with very physical jobs and nothing was too much trouble. After 4 months you may expect to see a crack or two but no - the work of the staff and their attitude was second to none.
Whilst my son had pneumonia he was stated as critically ill however staff in HDU were so professional in every procedure they carried out that although we were very concerned for our son we were never left with the feeling that he may not survive.
Following his return to RRU he gained his strength and fortunately being there never gave him any time to feel depressed . The ward itself is not modern like many other parts of the hospital but what it lacks in decoration it more than makes up in kindness and professionalism.
What could be improved
I would say the lifts. They constantly stick at level 3
The food (although the food servers try their best to present it as well as they can)
is pretty awful. They do seem to make nice puddings. Kind of makes up for the rest of it.
The decor. RRU could do with some modernisation and brightening up.
