About: Kettering General Hospital

What I liked

I was very impressed by the care I received on by the Obstetric team, Labour ward and Rowan Ward after recently moving near to Kettering and having an emergency C section on 23 October. I cannot fault the teams and would especially like to thank one of the consultants and all of the fantastic midwives. They do a good job with the minimal resources they have. I highly recommend this hospital.

What could be improved

I would have appreciated a nursery within Rowan ward, apparently this has recently been taken from the ward and would have made the stay of many ladies much happier.

I am really pleased that the overall care was good and you could not fault the team. Our aim is to work with mums individually to address their needs and support as required.

The issue of a a nursery is one that we are no longer in a position to offer as we have a Certificate of Committment to promote Baby Friendly status. Step 7 of UNICEF Baby Friendly Standards is regarding Rooming In. The guidance we need to follow states that Mothers will normally assume parenting responsibility for the care of their baby therfore there is no need for a designated space in postnatal areas. All mothers are to be encouraged to keep their babies nearby as this encourages confidence in early parenting skills including handling of the baby and recognising feeding cues.
