What I liked
The hospital is clean and having seen the cleaning staff at work they do a good job.
What could be improved
Communications between staff, patient, and relatives. My father was in the day surgery ward for an eye operation. This was a repeat operation as the first was not a success. He was nervous about the operation and knew what it entailed, but at the age of 86 wanted me present.I arrived at the reception and was told my father was not there, after waiting for 1hr I spoke to the receptionist, who knew I was there and why.I then toured the hospital to try and find my father,he was being transported by a volunteer and I knew when they had left home as my father phoned me.there was no sign of him and I returned to the reception where I was told to wait again.eventually 2hr later the lunch cover staff asked why I was there. They phoned the day ward and my father had indeed arrived 2hrs earlier.I was taken to another waiting area,I asked that my father be told I was there as he would be worried.I waited again.I eventually saw my father as he was wheeled to surgery. He had not been told I was there even though he had asked staff a number of times. This is not the first bad experience of staff at the memorial and dare say it will not be the last.
my father has had a number of eye operations this year. The staff on the eye department are great.Nurses,Doctors and his consultant can not be praised enough.however the ward staff leave a lot to be desired,I was thrown out of the day ward on his first op.there by a very stroppy sister, the next time I complained and was able to accompany my father, unfortunatly his op was cancelled and yesterday he returned for this. All the relatives waiting for their loved ones to return from surgery complained about the attitude of staff on the day ward.We also experienced ward 33 earlier in the year,a very bad experience which culminated in my father packing his bag and asking me to get him out of there.I obliged.
