"Amazing staff but no stimulus on ward"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital (Taunton)

(as a relative),

I would like to start by saying that the nurses and care staff were amazing. The reason for my story is that my mother ended up being on Exmoor Ward for 2 weeks, in this time there was no stimulus at all. No radio, TV, not even a TV lounge or some where to get up and walk to to encourage my mum to move, no connection to the out side world at all. The windows are even so high up you can't see out, so no understanding of even what time of day, is it sunny, raining nothing. I am so glad she is now home as she was bored and becoming depressed on this ward, surely this is detrimental to anyone improving on there health and enabling them to get well quicker and to return home.

We all respond well to some form of stimulus no matter how ill we are. I hope this feedback will be of use and maybe help patients that are still on this ward or for the future.

Dear 'Hooch'

Many thanks for taking the time to post your story and offer your gratitude about the nurses and the care your mother received recently on Exmoor Ward.

It is really helpful to receive feedback such as yours where we can really look to improve the experience for our patients.

I passed your posting to the Ward Sister and she has asked me to share with you the following:

'Thank you for your feedback, the team are exploring the idea of installing a TV on Exmoor Ward, and also the option to fund raise for a projector to perhaps offer “movie nights” or special “sports / news events” for the patients on the ward. I agree that day to day activities are so very important as part of the recovery process for all our patients and staff do encourage patients to participate in attending the dining room for lunch and other social activities offered on the ward'

I do hope your Mum is continuing to make a speedy recovery now she is home.

With kind regards,

Charmaine
