To me, being seen by a pain management doctor is vital because it means basically that you have a condition that cannot be diagnosed or cured and the doctor is there to help you manage the pain and suffering and to give you a better quality of life and some hope. I have suffered with a bad back and chest for some time and because of the pain had to give up a well paid , secure job this year.I then had an appointment with a consultant at the Pain Clinic, Telford on 5/Aug/2010. They organised a MRI scan for me on the 7/Sept/2010 which I attended. I have now had a letter through telling me that my follow up appointment with the consultant at the Pain Clinic which was scheduled for the 19/Nov/2010 has been changed until 6/Jan/2011!Since my first visit to the consultant my condition has worsened, the pain is more intense and with me all the time and affects all aspects of my life. My own GP says I have tried all painkillers and they are at a loss as to why nothing helps me. Their last comment was to wait for the results of the MRI scan, which I now cannot get until Jan next year!To me some-one visits a pain clinic because they are woried about their condition, in pain and need help. I can understand the delay in arranging a MRI scan but a near 4 month wait to get the results is discraceful and appalling in this day and age.I would like to know the excact reason why my appointment has been cancelled and not just referred to the list of possible reasons on the back of the letter.I would also add that I have an appointment at another consultant’s clinic on the 8/Nov/2010. Hopefully they may have the MRI results although at my last visit to this clinic 3 months I was told by a doctor that I had small spinal fractures that could not be picked up by X-Rays and that was the cause of my pain. I was told to have a healthy diet and that there was nothing more that could be done for me.Sometimes I feel like sitting in A & E until some-one helps me.
