"I was in a ward for 4 days at the end of..."

About: Darlington Memorial Hospital

What I liked

I was in a ward for 4 days at the end of October 2010....

I was accused of sticking my fingers down my throat when I had thrown up blood.

I was shouted at for crying -I was in pain and scared.

I asked for toiltries for a wash- I recieved a bar of soap and a pink jay cloth-I had to wash my hair with soap and still didn't get a toothbrush/paste.

At no time was my treatment explained to me or what was happening.

I was fobbed off with paracetamol and tramadol for 36 hours- they did not listen that I was in pain and needed more/higher meds.

My case was discussed in the corridor, by the medical team- not the most confidential or professional thing.

I was patronised and told it was just period pain, the doctor then decided to tell me all about her period pain.

I was discharged but not given any meds to go home with so had to go cold turkey and manage without meds until I saw my gp the next day.

I read in my notes they wanted to discharge me as I was costing too much.

Staff didn't even write the correct name on the sick note.

It was written in my notes I'd had an anti DVT injection, the doctor forgot to give it.

Measured for anti DVT stockings but not around my calf so huge indents/sores on my legs now.

I was told by the doc I could go home, so I called mum to collect me- it then took another 90 minutes for the doctor to come back with my script and sick note

I have since told my GP I do not want to ever go back to this hospital, I fear for patients health, well being and mental state if they have to go here.

What could be improved

Everything.
