"MAC and labour ward"

About: Wexham Park Hospital / Maternity

I'd like to start by saying that i am not one to leave reviews, as it really takes a lot for something/someone to impress me, but on this occasion, i was very impressed with MAC and labor ward, and one particular individual, the midwife who delivered our baby.

During my pregnancy, i ended up in MAC (maternity assessment center) 6 times, due to various reasons. Luckily, there was never an issue and i was discharged within hours, however the team at MAC was always very helpful and made me feel l have made the right decision to go and get myself checked and it is the best thing that i could have done for my baby's and my own well being. Great team of midwifes and nurses work there. The facility is new/recently refurbished as well!

My labor started at about 1am on 11th October and by 4:30 am we arrived to Wexham, after having called MAC in advance, I was in quite a bit of pain, and it turned out i was already almost ready for delivery. The midwife who admitted me into MAC and then took me to the labor ward shortly after. Due to what seemed to be staffing issues they actually ended up staying with me and delivering my baby. I could not have asked for a better midwife, very kind, encouraging and patient with me, knowing exactly what to say and how to say it to make me feel at ease, which was just what myself and my partner needed, being first time parents and going through the experience with no pain relief apart from gas & air. Not enough words to describe how thankful we are to the midwife! (Labor ward seemed to have been refurbished too, and the facility is great).

Then, we got transferred into ward 22 for a few hours, before being discharged (luckily) on the same day. The team there is nice, helped me get breastfeeding established for the few hours i was there. They do seem very understaffed, but everyone we dealt with, was nice. One thing, that was a bit of a let down in the entire experience was that my baby was checked on ward 22 and no abnormalities were detected and noted, and she actually has an extra toe. I noticed that during our first night at home and was very shocked. After reporting it to them, they have now rectified the mistake, i have received calls from a pediatrician and have also got a surgeon appointment, however this really made me paranoid, as if they miss something so obvious like a 6th toe, could they have missed something less obvious, but more serious..during that check...

Overall, the positives outweigh the one negative...and like i wrote, Wexham has already rectified the mistake and i have an appointment in place with a surgeon. I would like to reiterate the positive tone of this review and bring focus on the great individuals like the midwife, who are an absolute credit to this hospital.
