About: Elm Lane Surgery

Since a previous doctor retired this surgery has gone downhill. I have been a patient for the last 69 years, I am seriously thinking of moving. The previous doctor used to see me every 3 months, 10 mins chat, blood pressure check, next 3 prescriptions issued, fine. When they retired, at my next visit I was told to see the doctor twice a year only, in future. The nurse & reception staff will deal with me in between. Now starts the problems. The surgery has very limited visiting times, closes completely for an hour and a half at lunch. I then find out that the nurse is only in attendance 2/3 times a week, because they are shared with a Chapeltown surgery. I rang repeatedly the other day, eventually hanging on, determined to be spoken to. Eventually reception picked the phone up, then put it straight down again, cutting me off. I tried again, got through, said I wanted to make an appointment to see the nurse. The immediate reply started " I might be able to squeeze you in next" I stopped them, politely said I was also a busy person, & could I give dates that were convenient to me. I sensed a distinct frosty atmosphere developing. I gave 2 dates in a fortnights time, no nurse available on the days in question. I had to settle for a more inconvenient date. On top of this the entire practice, GPs, nurse, reception is now 100% female, not a man in the place. I can imagine the uproar if it was solely a male domain.
