"I accompanied my sister who was admitted..."

About: Chelsea & Westminster Hospital

What I liked

I accompanied my sister who was admitted for her severe asthma during a stay with me in London. During the two weeks visit, which included visit to A&E, AMU, ICU and Marie Celeste Ward, I was very impressed with the standard of care in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Unfortunately my sister and I are used to hospital visits ... we both commented on how pleasant and caring all the staff at Chelsea and Westminster were. For example, every member of staff who dealt with my sister always took the time to introduce themselves and explain their role and what they were about to do, even when she was seriously ill in ICU. We were also both pleased with the food which my sister commented is better than other hospital food she has been used to!

Also, I like the caring approach to the visitors of patients. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the free concerts and art work definitely help visitors to relax as much as they can in what can be a very stressful situation. The chaplain was also kind and helpful.

What could be improved

My only worry was when we first arrived in A&E, and were asked to wait in the waiting room. I was trying to explain to the receptionist that my sister could slip into a coma very quickly, and I didn't feel she was taking me seriously. That was a worrying and stressful moment. From the moment we were called through to see a doctor however everything went very smoothly and care was excellent.

Anything else?

The experience at Chelsea and Westminster has restored my trust in the NHS!
