"Attended A & E on a Saturday early..."

About: Tameside General Hospital

What I liked

Attended A & E on a Saturday early afternoon and was seen within stated time. My condition was evaluated by the Triage Nurse, Medical and Surgical teams and following X rays I was admitted for Surgery and taken to Ward 17. Subsequently seen again by the Surgeons, Aneasthetist and Theatre Staff, all of whom kept me informed of the coming surgery and explained fully possible pitfalls. After late night surgery I was returned to the Ward. Pain was well sorted and the Nursing team were excellent. for the next day and a half until I was discharged on Monday.

What could be improved

Pity A & E cannot be speeded, however with casualties coming in al the time and the need for prioratisation of urgency, this must be anticipated. The cubicle I was put into had apparently just been used and had not been fully tidied. There appeared to be blood on the cot side frame. Perhaps during weekdays this would be checked and cleared promptly.

Anything else?

Having had experience of several hospitals, both private and NHS in the Greater Manchester area, I found the service, care and attention of all staff to be as good as any and would not have any qualms about returning to Tameside were it to be ncessary in the future.

Dear Derek K

Thanks for posting these comments, which I will bring to the attention of staff in A&E and the surgical unit.

I am pleased to note that your care at Tameside Hospital went so smoothly, and that you felt the service, care and attention of all staff to be as good as that of any hospital you have had experience of.

I am sorry to note the cubicle had not been tidied. It is very likely that this was for the reasons you suggest, though even under these circumstances it should not have happened. We have very recently taken delivery of 33 “state of the art” trolleys in A&E, which are much easier to keep clean. This should help to eliminate the presence of stains on bed rail frames.

I do hope you are now feeling much recovered.

Many thanks again

Philip Dylak
