What I liked
Having just had my second baby at the North Middlesex, i have read the other comments about my local hospital and feel the comments are very one sided. I do sympathise with those women who had a bad experience as I know how important it is to be treated with dignity and respect. I was looked after by a community team of midwives who came into hospital and delivered my son. My midwife who i knew, met me on the labour ward. My son was born 3 hours later and I was transferred to the postnatal ward. I felt very safe and well looked after during my stay on labour ward. My midwife was kind, professional and obviously took the job very seriously. The postnatal ward was very busy and I felt many midwives wanted to give me their time but there was just too many women to look after. I do agree there were some midwives who I was glad I didnt have much to do with. They appeared very grumpy and I can see how some women did not feel looked after but there were many midwives who I feel were good at their job. I also agree the maternity unit need updating. Although the wards were clean, paint was peeling and the windows are hard to see out of especially those overlooking the north circular - i suppose this is particularly bad because of this. It is a shame we dont have a new hospital like the general services but the midwives told me there are plans to have a new birth centre - I would love to have my next baby in a birth centre - I plan to have 4!! Some of my friends have had babies here and we want to support our local unit.
