About: Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Working age mental health care (inpatient)

(as a service user),

I was admittedly informally to Millview Hospital.

I arrived quite late however the next day not one member of staff came to see how I was, offered me any food, change of clothes or anything to have a shower with.

The day after that it was only until dinner time about 5/6pm that a member of staff came to see if I wanted any food, I was starving by this point so of course i wanted food!

Having not been in a mental health hospital before, on the Friday night I became very scared, it got to about 1am in the morning until Austin a mental health nurse came to my room to see me sitting under the desk cuddling my teddy, it was only then I was offered clean clothes, a towel and wash stuff, and clean bedding. 

I also though that it felt like a prison to me, the amount of times I told staff that I didn't smoke, I still wasn't allowed out in the non-smoking garden.

After being discharged from Millview, I have received fantastic services from the early intervention in psychosis team based in Horsham.

Dear DSJ

I am very sorry to hear what happened to you at Mill View - and I will pass your comments to the hospital manager to respond to on this site. If you feel happy to share which ward you stayed on I ill be able to get a more detailed response. I am glad that the EIP team was helpful and ill pass your comments onto them

Following my previous message please find below the response from the Matron responsible for Caburn Ward at Mill View Hospital, Trina:

Thank you for taking the time to write about the experience you had on Caburn ward. I am sorry to hear that the experience you had was not a positive one. The things that you describe fall short of the standard that I expect for any patient in Mill View Hospital and are not acceptable.

From the information that I have, I am not able to work out when you were a patient here, therefore I am unable to provide you with any relevant information from that time. If you were willing, I would be very pleased to talk to you directly, to learn firsthand about your experiences in order that we can learn from them. Please get in touch using the details below
