"I brought my 4 week old daughter in to..."

About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital (Welwyn Garden City)

What I liked

I brought my 4 week old daughter in to the A&E early one morning in January as she had started having fits during the night. I didn't have to wait at all, as they saw her immediately and took my concerns very seriously.

Within minutes they had taken her off to be examined and treated, and the staff kept me calm and informed at all times. As she deteriorated during the course of the day, the staff worked as a team, without complaining until after 1am the next morning to get her stabilised on the life support so that she could get transferred across to St Marys in London. The entire staff did not even think about going home after their shift had ended- their concern for the baby was evident. They stayed positive in front of the hysterical parents, letting us know every development during the course of the day and night, and even bringing us food and drink.

Afterwards, when my daughter was stabilsed in the PICU in St Marys, the staff at QEII continued to phone the hospital almost daily to find out how she was doing. We felt like they really cared about her as a person, not just one of hundred of patients. The consultants at St Marys all confirmed that the doctors at QEII put her on the correct medication and made all the right decisions that ultimately saved her life.

We really owe the staff at QEII our gratitude- on that cold, snowy day in January they worked as a team to save our little girl's life. 8 months later she is a happy little girl who can crawl, pull herself up, brush her own teeth, and is a blessing to everyone to is privileged to have her as part of their life!

Thank you for everything!

Reading such a testimony to the dedication and skill of our staff at the QEII is humbling.

Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to send us your comments about the care your daughter received; we very much hope all of you enjoy a very bright future!
