What I liked
I spent several hours in A&E and was cared for very well. The staff were kind and considerate and I was kept well informed regarding my treatment. I then spent 5 nights in ward 5A South. During this time I was happy with the care and conditions provided by the staff. There were two nurses in particular whom I would like to commend. I don't know how I can do this without naming individuals but would like the opportunity to do this for their benefit.
On the negative side, I did feel that a patient in the bed next to mine did not recieve the best attention. She was elderly and was confused. Some, but not all, of her care was lacking in attention. for example, she required help with eating and drinking which was not always provided. Also she was unable to understand what was being said to her by staff who were not always patient with her. This patient subsequently died.
What could be improved
I was surprised to see that patients did not have their names displayed on the board above each bed.
On occasions the patient notes were moved from the end of beds and put on a side table. I saw Dr's having difficulty locating patients.
Anything else?
I was pleasantly surprised by the standard of food provided. Considering the difficulty of providing hot meals for patients, I felt the quality and choice of food was good.
