What I liked

My husband has been on quite a few wards in the last four years due to his poor health, the best wards that he stayed on was HDU and 3A these wards were kept clean and tidy, and the staff were very helpful. There was only a few times that i had to go and fetch them when a gentleman opposite my husband was sliding down the bed and was never given the bell to get help. Unfortunately the gentleman passed away.

The rest of the wards he has stayed on mainly 8a-8b were appalling, these wards were filthy even to the point my husband refused to go to the toilet till it was clean, which took the nursing staff nearly 5 hours to clean. The nurses and Staff nurses were arguing over who was going to change a canula as they both kept saying it wasn't there jobs. Therefore my Husband was not given antibiotics thru the drip for 8 hrs.

A&E on several visits has had blood and filth all over

I know the government set out the staffing levels but they no doubt are looked after in private hospitals not nhs hospitals. THese staffing levels need changing as sometimes it can be quite dangerous for patients on the level they are on. Some nursing staff and cleaning staff don't seem to care about patients, i have worked as a care assistant and to me staff need to be of a caring disposition, and to treat patients the way they would their own relatives.

Both nurses and doctors she be made to go through hand washing and infection control procedures again as 99% of them don't even use the hand cleanser inbetween each patient, this is probably why my husband ended up with Cdiff.

My Husband has even spent time in Nottingham Hospitals and the difference in cleanliness is unbelievable, all beds were pulled out stripped and cleaned thoroughly everyday. The ward toilets were also cleaned by a cleaner that went round all the toilets on the ward purely to keep them clean.

if one hospital can clean to such good standards then why can't we. The lincolnshire hospital all need a good dose of bleach

What could be improved

evrything really, cleaniness of staff, patient handling and most important the cleanliness of the hospital.

Thank you for your feedback - our levels of cleanliness were clearly not of the expected standards during your husbands visit either in terms of environment or staff hygiene practice during care and I am sincerely sorry for this. You left this story almost 2 years ago and I am sorry that we have only just read and responded; this is because we did not have the systems in place to do so regularly - we do now. Your experience also told of staffing levels and staff attitude and again the impact of these issues let you and your husband down. Pilgrim has moved on considerably since this time and much of that movement has been extremely public following CQC visits and concerns. I wont profess that we are getting it right all the time but the CQC have been very pleased with the progress made and we have tight monitoring systems in place now with processes for reviewing and highlighting where standards are struggling. I am so sorry these were not in place in all the wards you visited.

Whilst my response is very late, your feedback is still extremely valuable to us and I want to assure you that we have now listened and continue to learn.
