"Even though my operation was minor..."

About: Darlington Memorial Hospital

What I liked

Even though my operation was minor hernia repair and had to be canelled twice, staff clearly cared and were sympathetic and helpful. Everybody from the surgeon to the sister on ward 11, my named nurse through to the receptionist, anaesthetist and his nurse were proffesional, polite and sympathetic. I felt this indicated a good morale and well run operation when staff clearly perform to such a good standard day in day out. I hope these comments will be passed on to the team concerned.

What could be improved

hen operations have to be cancelled and are not urgent as in my case, it would be good to know why.

Anything else?

God bless the NHS, I have a daughter living in USA ...... how different things are there, I wonder if we realise how lucky we are when we are sometimes critical of standards.

Thank you for your positive comments. The Day Surgery Manager has added: We strive to deliver excellent standards of care and I am proud of the way the team work together.

Operations are never cancelled lightly as we are very aware that patients make plans around these arrangements and changes can be very inconvenient. Cancellations usually happen to allow a more urgent case to be performed.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us.
