nhs direct told me to take my 6 yr old son to a&e he had meningitis symptoms.triage nurse checked him and said they thought he ok but maybe get doc to have a look place busy but kids normally seen within an hour.we booked in at 1930 at 0030 we left a&e been told by nurse that we still had at least maybe 3 hours to wait.

The Matron of the Emergency Department at North Durham is disappointed to hear of your recent experience and has added that, while we do our best to see all children within one hour, we have obviously failed to achieve this in this instance for which we apologise. Waiting times do vary depending on workload and should be discussed with the triage nurse who will be able to offer re assessment, guidance and up to date information of your child. We will share your comments with the team and remind nurses of the importance of good communication.
