"Mum's treatment at home"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Hospital at Home Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service University Hospital Wishaw / Respiratory Medicine (Ward 7)

(as a carer),

My mum had been accepted for Hospital at Home. This meant that she was able to be monitored, have bloods done, get intravenous medication in the comfort of her own home. She was cared for by a team consisting of a paramedic, nurse and occupational therapist and physio. The staff who attended were excellent. So professional and efficient. Yet so caring and friendly.

Sandy, Angela and Mary ( sorry if I've missed anyone) ensured the treatment was monitored and were very timely in updating mum on the progress of her treatment, her blood results etc.

Unfortunately, mum's condition deteriorated. This was picked up through the blood work.Hospital at Home staff advised mum it would be best if she was admitted to the hospital for closer monitoring.Their intervention meant that mum had more time at home with my dad and us. We knew she was very poorly with lung cancer.

They arranged mum's admission to Wishaw General. The Scottish Ambulance Staff who conveyed mum to the hospital were so nice and gentle. They didn't hurry her.

Hi,

Many thanks for taking the time to get in touch and highlight the excellent care your mum received from our crews during her illness.

It is great to read about the professionalism and caring nature of our staff during what must have been a difficult time for both your mum and the family.

I am sorry to hear that your mum's condition deteriorated. It is nice to hear though that you were able to take some comfort from the care she received and that you and your dad were able to spend more valuable time with her at home for a longer period rather than in a hospital ward.

If you had the time to send me some more details, such as the date and address our staff attended, I'd be keen to track down Sandy, Angela, Mary and any others who may have been involved in your mum's care just to pass on your kind words. My email address is Mark.hannan3@nhs.net

Thank you again for taking the time to feedback and for expressing your gratitude.

Take care,

Mark
