"Some of the midwives and the staff in..."

About: East Surrey Hospital

What I liked

Some of the midwives and the staff in theatre while i was having my c section

What could be improved

Some of the nurses !!

Anything else?

I recently had my second baby by c section and found the care i received very mixed. The people that did my c section were great, they kept me informed at all times and i couldn't of asked for better. The staff member, who did my epidural was fantastic. The midwives and nurses on the Ward were mixed. I stayed in for 2 nights and on my first night i could not of asked for nicer midwives. One nurse helped me immensley when i was finding it hard to move because of my c section however on the second night i found that the midwives barely spoke to me. As all the staff do shifts you never get the chance to continue a relationship with them, you build up a rapport with them through the day and then the staff change at night and you never see those midwives again. I found a couple of the nurses very rude and abrupt, one of them questioning why i wasn't eating my breakfast in the dining room after the midwife had told me i could eat it in bed because i had only given birth the night before. I paid for my own room which was a god send. It meant i could use the bathroom and look after my baby in private. I do feel however that as you are not disturbing any other patients you should be allowed more than 2 visitors at a time. I also think that the visiting hous ( 3-5 and then 7-8 ) should be reviewed. The staff were constantly complaining at 3pm about how many times the door buzzer rang. If the visiting hours were made longer than visitors would be more staggered throughout the day. Overall i found my care on the ward good, there are two staff i would most like to thank and two of the midwives, and also two of the nurses, one of whom greeted me on my first day and was very friendly and helpful.
