My friends drove me to the A+E department recently after a fall. I was told on arrival that I wouldn't be seen for approximately 4-5 hours. During this time I was not offered or given any pain relief. Also during this time I had to repeat my details over and over again as the staff couldn't find me on their system. After me telling them numerous times, they asked my friends if I could be mistaken ie was this my correct name, address, date of birth etc. Finally when I was taken to the x-ray department, the nurse was very abrupt and fairly aggressive in her manner. I was in a lot of pain and struggled to move my arm to where she wanted me to. I thought I was going to faint and this was seemed to be an inconvenience for her. After 6 hours of being in pain with no pain relief, I was told I had dislocated and fractured my shoulder. A nurse attended to me and asked me 2 questions which I nodded in agreement with. Her response was to ask me if I spoke. I found this to be extremely rude. After 8 hours I was finally moved to a ward. The majority of the nurses were amazing, all but one who had no social skills and no smile. My experience with a junior doctor was uncomfortable to say the least. All in all my experience was a mixed bag. The majority of the staff were exceptional however a small number of the staff were appalling.
