"My Mother"

About: Mill View Hospital

(as a relative),

My mother was admitted as an Informal admission Patient for her own safety as she had stated she wanted to take her own life. On admission all belts sharp items were removed from her belongings. But shortly after she was given scissors and knitting needles against the family’s wishes. We asked her many times what treatment she was receiving her answer was always the same Nothing There was a meeting called going forward Where all the family’s wishes were completely ignored, it was just like we weren’t there, she was sent home for visits against our wishes. She then asks to go home and stated she didn’t want the family to be informed. In their Professional opinion they considered my Mother to have Capacity which means she can control her own life. Wrong they let her leave she said she had a lift home Wrong!

Two days later she took her own like in the most terrible way.

I hope your response is not to say you’re sorry I feel that if that was true you would never have allowed this to happen.

Dear sonone

This is a horrible situation for your family and while being sorry is not sufficient it would be odd of me not to start by acknowledging and regretting your loss.

I have spoken with the service at Mill View and they have let me know that an Inquest has taken place, learning from the Inquest identified by HM Coroner and the Serious Incident investigation has been shared with the Trust and an action plan is being implemented. They would like to share the information fully with you and your family and have been in contact to ask how they can best provide this information. They have not received any response to date and want to make the offer again - Lauren D'Souza Matron at Mill View would welcome contact from you
