As an MS patient, I'm meant to be seen quarterly for blood tests, alternating between my GP and the MS clinic at Seacroft with a nurse appointment.
The MS clinic has been running behind since I was diagnosed, and I am always a month or two behind where I should be with blood tests. The clinic is only open on Wednesdays, which makes organising things very difficult, and letters for arranging appointments always arrive late. Want to call to book your appointment? That'll be half an hour on hold for an appointment in a month and a half. Great.
"We're running the clinic a month behind at the moment" - you've been at least a month behind since I was diagnosed! That's a 4 1/2 month gap between blood tests I'm meant to have every 3 months. If you can't handle the volume just let me do it through my GP where I know I can be seen timely, and where any problems I have are taken seriously.
MS is clearly underfunded with only 2 nurses being available for the whole of Leeds, and getting any response from my nurse within a two week window has been tough. My appointments with the nurse are check box exercises, and I have not been referred to my neurologist when I should have been after suffering a relapse. I don't feel safe or trust in the care I have received and have had a terrible experience that has not been joined up from the outset. I wish things could work more smoothly so I didn't have to fight for every single thing when I just want to get on with my life and not have to think about my illness.
Also a note - the Leeds hospitals manually send your records around. So my notes were not available in LGI when I had to attend an unrelated appointment because they were stuck in Seacroft from the week before. I had to re-undergo a painful test because only a scrap of paper had been left in my file...
With the hospital in general, the parking is a joke, I've never once been able to get a space and it's incomprehensible that an out of town hospital charges so much for parking -also looking at you, LGI. At Seacroft I always have to park in the ASDA down the road, which isn't great when you're struggling to walk. Bonus tip if you've made it to the end of this review though.
