"I took my mum of 82yrs of age, without..."

About: Sunderland Eye Infirmary

What I liked

I took my mum of 82yrs of age, without an appointment as i only noticed how badley blood -shot her eye appeared. As mum had had laser treatment for cattarrach some months earlier i was concerned it could be important. Mum was given a card and asked to wait, this only took 5 minutes before she was called by the nurse. The nurse was patient with mum at all times explaining and thoroughly looked at her past notes, full examination of eyes, and blood pressure. Mums eye was found only to have Conjuctivia, no relation to removal of cattarachs. Mum was then refered to the doctor which again she did not have to wait too long. Again the doctor treat mum with care an attention and at all times asking many questions.

This being an Emergency department and quite busy I was very impressed in the way they attented to everyone waiting with respect.

My only complaint would be with the receptionist who apperaed put out at having to do her job!. She did not smile once or appear to be approachable at all, not really what you want when one might be a little worried about there condition, especially older people.

What could be improved

As i could see it, only the above reference to the recepionists attitude and lack of empathy.
