"My GP Practice doesn't seem to care about patients with special needs"

About: Surrey and Sussex

(as a service user),

I have ADHD.   My prescription medication makes a huge difference to my quality of life, but I need to ask my doctor for a prescription each month as the medication can't be given as a repeat prescription.   The practice has an email address that is used for repeat requests and they said I would need to use this every month to ask for my medication.   I don't have the option all the other patients on repeat prescriptions have to be notified automatically on EMIS when their prescriptions are ready, so I asked the practice to reply to me by email so I'd know when to collect it.   Unfortunately, they have refused to do this which means I have to ring the switchboard to check the progress of my prescription, sometimes I have to call up to 5 times which is really inconvenient because it usually takes about 20 minutes for the call to be answered.

This kind of thing is extra frustrating for someone with ADHD and to make matters even worse I also use a hearing aid.  I really struggle with background noise on the phone - I have a headset for my work phone but as this is a personal call I have to find a quiet place at work and use my personal mobile. The surgery is only open during working hours so it makes it really difficult and I'm worried about all the time I'm having to spend on personal calls during the day. I was left feeling as though I have to settle for less than patients who don't have disabilities or special requirements.     The practice just doesn't seem to care - it makes me sad!
