"I am a diabetic and need access to food"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Maternity care

(as a relative),

I went to go for lunch as my wife and child were in maternity wing. First the cash machine was out of order and has been long term. I also find out that since the hospital is moving to new building they won't be replacing this one. What happens to the services still in existing building.   I then find out the main canteen in hospital doesn't accept card payment. This is a major inconvenience as I am a diabetic and need access to food. I feel let down by DGRI.

Dear Bmcb1604

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.

I was sorry to read that you were unable to get any food whilst attending Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary the other day, due to the cash machine being out of order and our dining room not being able to take card payments. I apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate that this was not ideal for you being diabetic and I am sorry that you feel let down by Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

I understand that the cash machine has indeed been out of commission for a number of weeks due to the company needing to replace it in order that it can accept the new bank notes. This work has now completed and the machine is now working.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept card payments in our current dining room as we don’t have card readers, however with more and more people using cards and the move to contactless payments, we have installed card readers in our new hospital.

Best wishes for you and your family.

Kind regards
