I attended the day surgery unit to have a procedure to remove a tumour from my kidney. The staff at the unit from the receptionist, nurses, doctors, and theatre staff were all very caring, professionals and I thank them all.
I was allocated a bed for my care before and after surgery of which was adequate apart from the fact that this area is used as a thoroughfare for all staff to traipse through.
I came round from the anaesthetic approx 11. 25 and was discharged approx 3. 40. In that time doctors, domestics, nurses, theatre staff all passed by the end of my bed, some glanced my way ( human nature) others didn't look. I found this very disconcerting and felt like I was in a fish bowl. I don't know why this clinical area where patients are going through a period of recovery from an anaesthetic is used in such a way? Maybe a shortcut? Easier route to other clinical areas? Habit? Whatever the reason it's in my experience not very confidential and should be looked at by management.
Again my treatment was second to none from all staff.
