I gave birth in the maternity unit at Lister Hospital.
Whilst my birth and subsequent care I received from staff at the hospital was exemplary, I would like to comment on one particular issue which really upset me - Bounty photographers on the postnatal wards.
I really object to them being allowed access to the ward and for them to be able to approach new mothers at their bedside outside of visiting hours.
I was approached on two occasions by Bounty photographers and whilst they were both polite, I think it wholly inappropriate that a new Mum should be 'bothered' by unnecessary people whilst on the ward. I was tired, emotional and in the middle of trying to care for my new baby after a traumatic and exhausting experience.
Does the hospital make a profit from this service? Do they allow the photographers access to names etc. of patients on the postnatal ward?
In the interest of confidentiality and dignity, I don't think it should be allowed.
