Having had contrasting experiences of previous colonoscopies at two different hospitals in another health area, I attended for a colonoscopy at Leicester Royal Infirmary on a Saturday morning.
The unit's reception desk was closed and after choosing to wait in the outside corridor for a while I later discovered a different, functioning, reception area elsewhere in the unit. I must have missed the signage to this when I first arrived and wondered if perhaps the directions could have been more obvious (a small point and probably barely worth a mention - it certainly didn't bother me too much).
I was so impressed by the excellent care offered to me throughout my attendance. The receptionist was forthcoming, friendly and welcoming. All the nursing staff were professional, compassionate and very approachable. The doctor was quite excellent and demonstrated some of the best interpersonal skills I've ever encountered in a medic (the doctor even greeted me with a handshake and, at a time of some natural apprehension, I found such comfort in this simple gesture of human warmth).
Enduring thanks to the wonderful staff at the LRI Endoscopy Unit. If and when I should return, I'll do so with considerable confidence and peace of mind. Thanks again.
