"A&E Majors... 7 and a half hour wait to see a..."

About: Whipps Cross University Hospital / Accident and emergency

Went to Whipps Cross Hospital A&E Department around 2.30pm on a Saturday. Had to queue just to book in. Person behind glass couldn't hear and couldn't spell!! Finally get to the desk to describe my reason for visit, and sent straight to majors.

Arrived at majors around 3pm. About 30/45 minutes after arriving see the nurse. Sat me across the room from them so had to shout even though there was a chair just across from the desk. About an hour after seeing the nurse I was taken to provide bloods. Then began the wait! I sat in major waiting area (usually sitting on the floor as there was not enough chairs for the amount of people!) from 3pm until 10.30pm which is when I saw a doctor for the first time.... 7 hours and 30 minutes I waited.

Cleanliness is something that needs addressing at this hospital. Toilets were absolutely disgusting, no toilet paper in many, and they were the toilets that were actually available to use and not out of order. There is 2 toilets for the whole of majors (only 1 was not out of order) the "cleaner" then locked these toilets and it was only when a nurse unlocked them after nearly 2 hours could that toilet be used. Patients from majors were having to walk all the way up to the other toilets near the entrance!!

Once into the main majors and seeing my doctor there clearly wasn't enough space. I was put on oxygen in a cubicle with 6 other people who were all waiting to be seen by there doctor. Other patients were on trolleys and wheelchairs in the main area. People brought in by ambulances were wheeled in and sat in the majors waiting area!!

I think it's an absolute disgrace to have to wait 7 hours and 30 minutes just to see a doctor when you are sent straight to majors.... big changes need to be made at this hospital!!
