"Giving Birth at Oldham Hospital"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

Me and my baby boy were discharged from Oldham hospital after 1 week stay.

I cannot praise the midwifves, nurses and other staff more highly. The dedication and commitment to the job has really blown me away.

Me and my husband would like to thank each and every one of them for there care during my stay in hospital.

We had several issues from low oxygen levels, possible infection and then jaundice during our stay. At no point did anyone make me feel alarmed just reassured and looked after.

This includes when I was in labour and there was obviously an issue, the midwife kept us calm before the option of forceps or c section depending in surgery on how it went. The midwife didnt panic us even though the heart rate kept dropping and the baby wasnt coming on the labour ward on 6th September in the early hours.. The female doctor who performed forceps surgery, a true professional I think she is new to the hospital. My stitches are the best job my midwife has ever seen.

I would like to say a special thank you to Jackie in pre natal the care assistant and Karen the midwife in postnatal ward who helped me with breastfeeding and made me feel like she truly cared. Karen you are an absolute star!

There was just one thing I noticed and this was the amount of staff that constantly disturb you when you are resting. I feel it would be a good idea to try and tie visits from members of staff together. For example the baby could be checked for blood pressure ext or blood test. Then 30 mins later I would have my obs check then someone would come with painkillers etc etc. Then someone would come in with fresh water then shortly after the menu and then again etc. Letting mums have a little rest is an important part of the healing process and it did feel like there was somebody there constantly and you couldn't rest.

I will always be grateful to the hospital for the level of care we received.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby and thank you for sharing your story. It is always good to hear from women that have had a positive experience. I will ensure that Jackie and Karen are aware of your lovely comments. I will also feed back your ideas for change to the postntnal ward manager.

We are holding a 'Whose Shoes' listening and engagement event on the 19th of October, it would be great to see you there! Email me directly for further information at:
