About: Helston Community Hospital

What I liked

normal staff lovely

What could be improved

a sign at reception which says dressing only dealt with between 2-4pm so your not dealt with in a rude manner by senior staff

Anything else?

I was on Holiday in Gweek the local hospital was Helston community hospital, I had to attend to get my dressings changed every other day, on my arrival the reception staff were nice filled out necessary forms and sent me to wait in the room. A nurse came out and said what do you want, I explained I needed my dressing changed every other day and they said why in a very aggressive manner so I explained I had an open wound following an operation they said we don't do dressing until 2pm so I explained I had just arrived on holiday and didn't know, if it was to inconvenient I would come back at 2pm they said again in an aggressive manner I suppose we will do it follow me, I felt like a naughty school girl. on the Wednesday that nurse wasn't there I had no problems with the nurse on, they were very polite. on the Friday when I went back it was 2.15pm another person was waiting they got called in after 20 mins or so their treatment took about 20 mins about this time another person came in to get their hand dressed then the nurse I had trouble with came out, my daughter who is 13 was with me and when the nurse came into the waiting room and looked at us and said aggressively what do you two want, as soon as I spoke she said oh yes your that northern woman and looked at the person who just walked in and said she's from up north she can wait, will you go in as your a local, my daughter and I were amazed I then waited another 20 mins before they said you can now come in, they then left me in the room whilst they went off 3 times it was obvious they had been eating something as they kept popping in and looking at me then they would go back out again I could here her talking to the other staff eventually I got treated I left the hospital at 3.50pm I was so upset at how they had been with me I have never been spoken to in that manner ever in a hospital and so obviously discriminated against as I was obviously from a different area as I come from Chester

Thank you for expressing your recent experience. The hospital concerned have begun to investigate this case as Community Health Services, who run the hospital on behalf of NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, take comments of this kind very seriously.

If you would like formal feedback our Patient Advice and Liaison Manager would be happy to help. The contact email address is: Rachel.Baker@ciospct.cornwall.nhs.uk
