"Dermatology care at the Hallamshire"

About: Jessops Wing Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Dermatology

(as the patient),

This is the second moan, but hopefully the last.

I have had lichen sclerosus for ten years. I came under the Hallamshire hospital dermatology department. I did not have a biopsy on the condition as my original consultant left. However I attended dermatology who, in my opinion, took a lot of pretty pictures and handed me dermovate. I know the condition is incurable. Some years later, regularly dermovated, the condition had grown bad enough to seek an opinion from my Doctor. I also wanted to try a form of HRT

I was sent to Gyny at Jessops. What a wonderful relief. I met a doctor who was utterly thorough and professional. Number 1 he checked for thrush which is sometimes caused by dermovate. no-one told me that! I had a biopsy and the care was excellent. On return to the consultant 6 weeks later something puzzling happened. He told me I had two overlapping conditions, lichen sclorosis and lichen planus and he was out of his depth. I had to see another specialist 2 hours later. Unfortunately that was the same people I had seen before in dermotology years ago. I asked for HRT and was told to take a step at a time. Its been ten years already! Yes, they agreed demovate can sometimes cause thrush. Well then, why not check for it? I have to say I am disappointed to lose a good gyny who was willing to try to look at the problem thoroughly. I have to say I suspect some form of internal politics here.

I was told by dermatology that I would make the book of records if the steroid medication did not work, mind they did switch me from demovate to something else, so let’s see. Anyhow, I was advised to use that aqua creme in the bath to wash myself, so I did last night(normally I use nothing as I tend toward an allegic reaction) Today, I came out in itchy bloches all over my legs and back and had to go to Boots for the pharmacist to look it over. I am not impressed!
