"I have been treated at the Bexley Wing..."

About: St James's University Hospital

What I liked

I have been treated at the Bexley Wing for cervical cancer since February 2010. I feel that I could not have received better treatment anywhere. My consultant is fantastic, visited me every time I was receiving treatment, if I was an in patient for three days the consultant visited me each day, even if they had seen me in theatre in the morning they still visited me in the afternoon. The staff in radiology were fast class as were the staff in brachytherapy. All the staff on ward 98 were also fantastic, nothing was ever too much trouble for them and they really care about the patients. Emotional support from specialist nurses was also fantastic. From day one everything was explained to me clearly and all my questions answered honestly. As a thank you for such fantastic care my husband and some of his friends are doing a coast to coast bike ride to raise funds as a thankyou. Whatever the outcome of my treatment I cannot thank all of the staff enough and from talking to other patients I feel that the general feeling is the same as mine.

What could be improved

Nothing - first class!

Anything else?

All the staff I came across were extremely supportive, so important when being treated for cancer, which is extremely intense and the side effects can be terrible. All the staff from my consultant to the porters are a credit to their profession.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback (via the NHS Choices website) your recent positive experience at the Bexley Wing at St James's University Hospital.

I was pleased to learn that you feel you have received the best treatment possible and found all the staff a credit to their profession. I was also pleased to hear that you feel you have been supported emotionally, treatment explained to you and your questions answered.

It is a credit to the staff that your husband and friends are undertaking a coast to coast bike ride to raise funds as a thank you.

We will pass on your comments to the Patient Relations Manager at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Thank you once again for taking the time to provide your comments and good luck with the bike ride!
