"i got taken in with pneumonia and the..."

About: Grantham & District Hospital

What I liked

i got taken in with pneumonia and the staff in A&E Were great, the when i got taken up to another ward there were great there, can't remember much because i was that ill from having a high temp, later on i got taken to EAU ward and staff were on the first two days but then they short of changed, the cleaning staff they were ok, but dint clean much! one thing that has made me upset was the way i was told to go, i knew i was getting discharged but after the doctor had told me i got my things together and about 3hour's later someone comes up chucks the box of pills on the bed, say take these for 4 days, and can you clear your stuff we need the bed now! and i hadn't even walked that far before they had changed the sheets, no what to do if i get worse or anything! they also done it to two other people that day aswell! just seem when they want you out they want u out! I'm now going to have to go to my GP day after i got out of hospital;

What could be improved

abit more care,

I am so sorry that after taking such good care of you we undid that good experience with such a hasty and uncaring discharge. There is no doubt that at times we do need beds urgently but that does not mean any of our patients should be leaving without any explanations of what to do after discharge especially if they are worried about things. I am clearly replying to your story some time after your stay with us and I am sorry that we have only recently put the process in place to review postings here on Patient Opinion - we felt however that it was important to go back over older postings as they are still valuable.

Indeed your story struck a chord with me as I read it as we have received further patient feedback about not being given enough information on discharge such as who to contact if you are worried and we will soon be introducing a simple 'discharge postcard' for every patient where such details can be completed and you can take away with you. I am sorry this was not in place for you but we hope this will make a real difference to our patients.

Thank you again for taking the time to leave us your feedback - and again please accept my apologies for experience.
