"My Dad has been in hospital since mid..."

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

What I liked

My Dad has been in hospital since mid May an in that time he has bee in intensive care where the staff were brilliant and kept myelf and all my family advised at all times on his condition.

Also he has been on F7 and the staff here again are very good and treat my dad with respect and try to keep him advised of what's going on.

What could be improved

He went from HDU after his operation onto a ward, he didn't stay very long on there. Even after concerns being raised from Sunday evening and an extra visit by a family member later on Sunday night and a few phone calls, nothing was don that evening. It was obvious his condition had deteriorated badly from early evening Sunday he wasn't moved to intensive care until mid morning on the Monday. At which time the family received a call that my Dad was critically ill and was on intensive care on a ventilator.

Back on to the ward for my Dad a few weeks later where I raised my concerns with the consultant, who told me it had nothing to do with they, they were on holiday. I should take my concerns to the Sister, which I did. The Sister was very nice when I spoke to them and explained a few things, not satisfactorily by the way, but I left it then thinking they would take more care in the future. My Dad was moved onto a different ward then to Manchester not long after.

Unfortunately my Dad was moved back to the original ward and after really progressing in Manchester he fell back again rapidly. When we asked questions we were told they would ask the doctor, that was it. After about a week he was irrational and confused and it was pitiful to see him in the state he was in. Thank goodness he was moved, and I think just in time to the second ward. His sodium levels were really high and he couldn't see. He now had corneal ulcers which didn't seem like they were being treated, or if they were, in a haphazardly fashion. As I said my Dad was in a pitiful state when he went on to this ward, even the staff there couldn't believe his deterioration in such a short space of time

Anything else?

Someone needs to take a good look at what is happening because someone along th line the care is very much lacking
