"I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this hospital...."

About: St Michael's Hospital (Bristol)

What I liked

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this hospital. I can only comment on my care in Ward 78.

I was nicely surprised to see how very clean and modern the bays in the wards were (compared to Weston General).

I had a nice electric bed that allowed me to adjust myself to a comfortable position - wonderful! I had a monitor which gave me free access to the Internet, also free radio stations to listen to (all mainstream channels plus one hospital radio channel). I could watch films if I bought a card (I don't know how much these were).

Telephone calls could come straight to my bedside with my own phone with my own number. Charging me or the caller just 10p per minute. One can purchase a 'top-up' card from a machine in the ward.

The nurses and doctors could not be any more helpful and considerate. I was very impressed with their attention to detail and making sure the patients were happy. First rate.

I was seen by many people the day before my surgery and no stone was left unturned- so to speak. I was given all the information on what to expect and at all times assured that if I had any worries or concerns they were there to help me. Which they were.

Everybody, nurses, support staff and doctors, were very thorough, polite, thoughtful and all with great professionalism and a smile :)

The catering is brought in from an outside agency and some of the meals were actually quite nice. Not all though. I thought the catering staff could have been a little bit more cheerful in their work. I guess they are just busy. (PS: Choose a cereal for breakfast as if one orders toast it is only white and comes to you stone cold!)

Absolutely everyone in Ward 78 are faultless in their duty of care to everybody. I went back to give them gifts as I was so impressed with them all.

PS: No FLOWERS are allowed in the ward and you can bring foods from home just not ones that need reheating or refridgeration.

PERFECT!

Monique (Full hysterectomy- In Monday, left Friday)

5 Stars.

What could be improved

The catering staff could do with a pep-talk.

Other than that I cannot think of one single thing that could have improved my stay.

Anything else?

Yes, a very big thanks to all staff in Ward 78. From the cleaner to ALL the nurses, doctors, surgeons etc for making my stay so comfortable. Despite the surgery, I enjoyed my time spent in Ward 78.

THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY :D
