What I liked
I spent most of yesterday in the Emergency Eye Care Centre with my boyfriend who was injured (12pm until 7.30pm)
When we first arrived we actually went to the Eye Hospital area rather than A&E. A very nice lady (one of the volunteers) came with us to show us where the Emergency Eye Care Centre was - I feel that this should be clearly signed posted as I’m sure other people have made the same mistake - however I understand that this department is moving soon, so this will alleviate the problem.
The staff were kind, courteous and very thorough with my boyfriends care. They also smiled - which really makes a difference when you are worried.
What could be improved
Directions to the Emergency Eye Centre as above.
Increased communication in the department - Once you arrive in the department you wait to see a nurse (which I presume is like Triage) then you wait again and you go into another room and see someone else, which I presumed was the doctor, however we then had to wait again to see the doctor. If Id known the procedure I wouldnt feel so anxious and "lost".
Also some indication of waiting time between all 3 "appointments" would be appreciated - even if its 6 hours at least you would know. Some people kept knocking on the door of the treatment room to ask how long, are they on the system, how many people are before them etc - which Im sure slows the nurses/doctors down when they are trying their best to see as many people as possible.
