What I liked
Nursing staff wonderful. Food excellent.
What could be improved
Standard of cleanliness. On admittance floo of room was covered with talc from previous occupant, and although I was an in-patient for threee days, admitted as an emergency to cardiology, no cleaner came into the room. Also I have COPd (chest complaint) and find breathing very difficult in heat. The room was stifling, but electric fans had apparently been banned because they created dust! As an emergency admittance, and confined to bed, , I was not supplied with a hand towel, nor offered any washing facility for over 24 hours!
I know air ambulance service is wonderful, but at the Leeds General Infirmary the landing pad is immediately ABOVE the cardiac ward, and during my stay, the helicopter landed three times one night in the early hours of morning. Waitiing area for transport home is a small, dirty, overcrowded room, no reading matter for patients, no T.V., drinks machine not working, no toilet facilities. All this, and I waited three hours for my transport home.
Anything else?
I have now had inpatient treatment at the Leeds General Infirmary three times in the last two years, but there has been no improvement in the cleanliness. No check is made on admission of patients for MRSA (as is done in the private hospitals). Overall I am not surprised that this hospital is low on the list.
