"No progress"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

This was the second consultant I had seen for a condition spanning seven years. The first consultant was seen through CATs at our local B&Q car park.

The consultant was focused, thorough and listened carefully. They explained possible causes and treatments.

The second appointment was at the hospital. The consultant was unaware of my previous consultation and prescribed medication. Eventually after considerable prompting the consultant referred to my notes but didn't suggest the recommended treatment after all previous nasal sprays had failed to cure or even bring relief from the symptoms. These are intermittent, usually following a specific sport. I also have a persistent post nasal drip. With the symptoms at their most extreme I am unable to breathe. Both nostrils swell and block, my larynx closes and blocks my trachea. It takes considerable conscious effort to release my vocal cords and breathe. This means sitting up all night and 'manually' opening my trachea. My nostrils remain swollen and closed for upto 12hours. A very frightening experience. What would happen if I was asleep and couldn't force myself to breathe? I explained this fear and was told to buy a decongestant spray from the pharmacy. Yet another spray. Over seven years I've used all those across the counter products! Allergy tests done at consultation one were negative. The only positive outcome of the hospital visit was a blood test for more allergies.

I don't think there are any. The symptoms are related to the sport that I do. No sport-no symptoms. Comment ignored, just like the breathing problem.

Very disappointed at what was almost indifference to and ignorance of any previous treatment .
