I was told repeatedly that there were no psychiatrists working for the community mental health team - so I did not see a specialist for nearly three years. Before this, services had been patchy at best - I did not see the same speciaist once or twice and despite my questions regarding medication or therapy I was never offered any alternatives. In July 2017 I eventually did see a pyschiatrist who dismissed my previous diagnosis of 'bipolar disorder' (something that was diagnosed by a different specialist ten years ago) as they said there was no evidence for it in my medical history. They told me that there is no mental health counselling available through the NHS and this was repeated by my CPN. I was told (by my CPN) that I should call the crisis team or the Samaritans as there are no other services available.
