when I was initially diagnosed there wasn't very much support for me. The Neuro team in Aberdeen were really only interested in whether my tumour had grown and could they remove it. Yet when I had Gamma Knife in Sheffield I was left in a poor state of health. I was left with ataxia, left side balance damage and chronic cluster headaches/fatigue. I was then put under the care of Mr Artal Neurologist, Shona McBryer Neuro Psychologist and Mrs Chandler Rehabilitation Medicine Consultant. I can't praise these medical professionals enough.
However there is no doubt that my absolute hero is Mr Artal. He's so understanding, caring, knowledgeable and excellent in his job. He's always listened to me, I've never felt rushed, talked down to. When I have been in a really bad way and thought I was in so much pain life wasn't worth living, he provided solutions to help me. Not only that, I could see how much he also was affected by me suffering, you can tell when someone truly cares.
Since now getting nerve blocks regularly, my pain is so much better. I can always rely on him. If I need him he can be contacted without too much trouble and I can always be assured of a speedy response.
I don't know anyone that has had contact with him that doesn't sing his praises. He has such a nice nature, never complains despite a crippling workload. I've heard so many good things about him from friends but also from medical staff I have come into contact with.
We need to clone medical professionals like him, although I guess being one in a million we can't!
