"Angiogram Procedure"

About: Wycombe Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I recently had an angiogram procedure. Felt very lucky to be given the chance to ascertain what is causing my attacks (my original appointment 3 weeks prior had to be re-arranged due to an emergency in the department and my temperature rising) A Stent was placed in several years ago but inflation failed so a 2nd stent was put in.

All went well with Angiogram I did not need any new Stents although some traces of disease was found. The Staff on the ward were very good and helpful. I wanted to mention to someone that something is very wrong with my health with these very unpleasant experiences I have but am pleased to know that my heart is as well as can be expected. I think the collection times for relatives could be improved. My poor husband had barely arrived home only to be phoned to come and pick me up (I wondered if this could be taken up with the Nurses in the ward to think this through before rushing to discharge? I drank most of the water they asked me very nearly 2 jugs plus fruit juice and 2 cups tea. After a very short time in the car journey home I experienced extreme pain in my lower back .. the pain was agonizing and like I have never thought possible. I was slightly sick and after the long hour drive and an hour in bed at home the terrible pain subsided but I thought someone ought to be told? The pain was really very bad.

Dear Julia, Thank you very much for your reply to the comments I made about my second Angiogram Procedure it was very reassuring to receive acknowledgement. Please note that in no way were my comments a complaint as I realize procedures and routine are really important with the smooth running of the Cardiac Day Ward. I just felt that one of the Nurses did say some people can have a reaction to the blue dye from the Angiogram? - I wondered if the extreme pain( and I really mean extreme) I endured on the long homeward journey had ever been reported before and if this was due to reaction to the kidneys? In procedures for the future is there a way forward to eleviate anyone having to endure this? I had a previous Angiogram in 2012 and this did not happen then but on that occasion I was kept in all day maybe this was because this was a groin insertion not a wrist? I don't know? Basically I wanted to let someone know as thought it may help in the future. I will definitely send an email to PALS if you think it may help. Thank you so much for your contact.

sincerely carolejoan
