"When urgent treatment or attention was..."

About: New Cross Hospital

What I liked

When urgent treatment or attention was required the staff were concerned and conscientious. I was only in for 24 hours.

What could be improved

Out of 6 of us in the bay, 2 were in pads and 2 had chronic diarrhoea and were using commodes about hourly. The nurses were not diligent about changing pads, or ventillating the ward, or anything much. 2 hours could pass without anyone coming into the bay, even if someone had buzzed. One patient had wet themself and there was a large puddle round their chair for over an hour. When they cleaned it up they wiped the floor with a pad - and that was it. No mop, no detergent or disinfectant. Apart from just before the doctors round, when everyone was cleaned and commodes removed, the place stank of faeces. It was stomach churningly revolting.

Anything else?

Two patients were confused. The nurses were not patient with them, or caring. They did not give one of them a drink for 6 hours until I mentioned it - then suddenly it was all business and charts - because somebody had noticed. There was no attempt to help the patients to eat. Food was put near them, then removed an hour later.
